Official: Coach Nuttall given the sack by Hearts

For entangling himself in conflict of interest situations with player contracts, Scotsman Frank Nuttall has been given the sack as coach of Ghanaian giants Accra Hearts of Oak.

The club officially communicated its decision Thursday after receiving recommendations from a three-member committee constituted to investigate his actions.

Nuttall, 48, who was engaged by the Phobians on February 16, 2017 on a two-year contract, is no longer identified with the club, Hearts officially announced in a statement.

“The Board of Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club Limited has, with immediate effect, terminated Coach Frank Elliot Nuttall’s contract for behaviours which were in direct conflict with the interests of the club,” it read.

“Upon receiving allegations about certain underground dealings by Mr. Nuttall, the Board constituted a three-person committee to investigate the facts of the case and give the coach an opportunity to defend himself against said allegations. After a thorough review of the facts and hearing Nuttall’s defense, the committee was unanimous in its recommendation to the full Board that his contract be terminated.”

Nuttall’s ‘sin’

“According to the committee’s report, Coach Nuttall admitted to his involvement in aiding and introducing players of the club to agents and vice versa without the knowledge of the management of the club. “

Void filled in the interim

“Effective immediately, Assistant Coach, Henry Lamptey Wellington, has been asked to take charge of the first team duties and will serve as Interim Head Coach, until further notice.”

“The Board would like to ask for the continuous support and cooperation of all stakeholders for Coach Wellington and his backroom staff.”

In his only season, Frank Nuttall guided Hearts of Oak to third place in the Ghana Premier League and also led the side to the final of the MTN FA Cup but lost out to arch-rivals Asante Kotoko.
