Daniel Opare: Augsburg tell “dishonest” Ghana defender he can leave

Ghana defender Daniel Opare has been told he is free to leave FC Augsburg in the summer following a January transfer window fall-out with the top hierarchy.

The German Bundesliga side say they can no longer put up with Opare’s “deliberate and repetitive lies” and his notorious “violation of code of conduct within the team.”

Opare’s contract is set to run out at the end of the 2017/18 season and Augsburg had been keen on renewing his stay.

The in-form right-back allegedly spilled his anger on Augsburg’s board after seeing a Premier League move to Leicester rejected on deadline day and threatened to leave for free, media reports claimed.

Prior to that, Opare had been snapped holding a meeting with two Schalke 04 officials at a restaurant in the Düsseldorf airport, compounding speculations he was eager for an exit from Augsburg. Schalke’s commercial manager Christian Heidel later moved to downplay the speculation, explaining their meeting with the Ghanaian was an introduction and not for transfer talks.

But the former Real Madrid protégé’s latest conduct after these episodes has forced Augsburg to call time on their relationship.

On Saturday, Augsburg effectively announced that they have had enough of Daniel Opare and asked him to begin seeking a new employer. After playing 17 games this season, he may not feature for Augsburg again till his contract ends.

Right-back Daniel Opare will not be included in FC Augsburg’s matchday squad for their encounter at home to Frankfurt on Sunday.

FC Augsburg stands for being down-to-earth, togetherness, reliability and honesty. Recently, Daniel Opare has shown no loyalty to these values. For this reason, the club has withdrawn its offer of a contract extension at the end of this season. Furthermore, the club has informed the 27-year-old that he can begin looking for a new employer as soon as possible.

“Daniel Opare has made his position clear and continued to lie to us even when presented with the facts. He has also gone severely against the Code of Conduct within the team,” explained FCA Sporting director Stefan Reuter.

FCA will be happy to discuss the matter after the game against Frankfurt, but not before, as the club wants to ensure that the focus remains purely on the upcoming fixture.
