“Kotoko is home,” says new signing Michael Abu

Asante Kotoko have officially announced signing Michael Abu.

And the goalkeeper is hoping to emulate the strides of his former trainer Joe Carr who happens to also be a legend of the Porcupine Warriors.

Abu completed his transfer from Ebusua Dwarfs after a successful medical on Friday.

Speaking in his first interview with the club’s official website www.asantekotokosc.com after penning his two-year contract, the young, enterprising and tall shot-stopper described the club as “home”.

“I didn’t have any second thoughts when the Kotoko management requested for my services. I am a Kumasi boy from Ashanti New Town precisely so Kotoko for me is home. You don’t hesitate in answering when a home-based club comes knocking on your door,” said Abu who had been in talks with rivals Hearts in recent weeks.

He also pledged to do his best to help win more laurels in the coming seasons.

“By coming here, I am also following the footsteps of the many great goalkeepers of Dwarfs who at some point joined Kotoko and excelled as well,” he said. Joe Car (his trainer at Dwarfs) is one of such players.

“I am looking to do exactly as they did by helping the club to win the league and also go far in next year’s Confederations Cup,” he concluded

Michael Abu spent two seasons at Sekondi Hasaacas before joining Ebusua Dwarfs where he spent another two years. He featured 22 times for the coastal city club in last season’s Premier league campaign.
