CONFIRMED: Black Starlets paid $84,000 World Cup cash

Ghana’s U-17 team players are smiling to the bank after an amount of $4,000 hit their accounts as bonus for participating in the 2017 Fifa World Cup in India.

The Black Starlets failed to annex the ultimate as they were booted out at the quarterfinals stage by fellow Africans Mali.

“We are making some payments and began with the Black Starlets. The moneys due the players have hit the respective accounts given the Ministry,” PRO Elvis Adjei Baah told Footy-Ghana.com Monday.

“We already put it out that they were entitled to $1000 per win but we were operating on a qualification bonus scheme. So for advancing from the group despite winning two games, each player gets $3,000.

“On top of that is an extra $1,000 for the Round of 16 win over Niger – That makes it $4,000 in total per player,” he explained.

Per tournament rules, 21 players represented Ghana at the India World Cup thus making it a total of $84,000 paid by the Sports Ministry.

The figures, though quoted in dollars, were paid in their cedi equivalent.
