Why you need to be in Tamale for 2017 MTN FA Cup final

Chairman for the FA Cup Committee has explained that the choice of Tamale as venue for the final of the 2017 competition was to recognize the huge contribution played by that part of the country towards the development of football.

This year’s FA Cup will see eternal rivals Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak lock horns in the final for the first time since 1989/90 season. The two sides have met on three occasions in the finals with Kotoko coming out as victorious on all occasions.

Okraku, together with other members of the committee, unveiled the mascot for the final at the Ghana FA secretariat on Tuesday.

“Tamale has produced the likes of Mohammed Polo, Anane Kobo, Abdul Karim Razak, the Ayew family, Mubarak Wakaso, Baba Rahman, Majeed Waris and a whole lot of others, who have in one way or the other, helped in the progress of Ghana football.

“However, they have not had the unique opportunity to host a big domestic football event and we thought this was the time,” Okraku stated during the unveiling of the Mascot for the finals.

“Tamale and the Northern Region have played big roles in Ghanaian football history and they really deserve to host this MTN FA Cup finals.

“Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko have never played each other in the northern region of Ghana and this is going to be the first time in the history of Ghana football,” Okraku added.

Ahead of the finals on October 29, the FA Cup Committee met the supporter leadership of both teams to whip up interest for the historic finals.
