Winful Cobbina was quick to single out teammate Amos Frimpong for his stupendous goal which helped Ghana beat Mali in the Wafu Cup on Saturday.
Cobbina broke the deadlock in the 74th minute. A big boot by Vincent Atingah from the back found Gideon Waja who then threaded the ball into the path of the Hearts of Oak. He took a control, drifted to his left before letting fly a bullet into the far corner.
Talking through the game, the exciting midfielder revealed his right-back’s run up field while receiving Waja’s pass created enough space for him to shoot at goal.
“It wasn’t an easy game, Mali played well but as a host nation, are to do everything possible [to win]. In the second half, we were playing better. I think we did well and then score.
“For the goal, I will say my number 2 [Amos Frimpong] did very well. He ran very well for the opponents to just follow him, so all I had to was to just position myself very well and just put the ball to the corner,” Cobbinah noted.
And that superb strike sent the tournament hosts into the semifinals even before their final group game.
Ghana now go into a battle with bitterest rivals Nigeria under not much pressure. The match is fixed for Monday, September 18 at the Cape Coast Stadium.
It will be played simultaneously with the Guinea vs Mali clash scheduled for Nduom Stadium in Elmina. Kickoff is at 6pm.
