CHAN 2018: Rigobert Song assures Cameroon will be ready

Cameroon legend and now coach of the Indomitable Lions home-based team, Rigobert Song says they will be ready to “put up a good show” at next year’s Championship of African Nations tournament (Chan).

Song, who excelled during his playing days for Cameroon and Liverpool, has been the coach of the Chan team since taking over from Martin Mpile upon their return from the 2016 edition.

In August, the former defender masterminded Cameroon’s qualification for the 2018 Chan and has already began preparations for the finals scheduled for January 12 to February 4.

Cameroon played a friendly match against Equatorial Guinea which they won 2-1 and Song is very pleased with the performance of his charges.

“My boys played well,” the former national team captain told the Fecafoot website.

“I’m happy with the score and the fighting spirit especially after they conceded an early goal. It shows that they were hungry for that win.”

Song is confident that with more of such friendlies, his home-based Indomitable Lions will be ready for the continental showpiece specialized for players plying their trades in their home countries.

“There is still much work to be done but we hope with many other friendly games like the one we had today, it`s possible for us to put up a good show in Kenya.”

Cameroon qualified for the finals after whipping São Tomé and Príncipe 4-0 on aggregate.
