Black Stars: Le Roy backs returnee Kwasi Appiah to succeed

Togo coach Claude Le Roy believes new Ghana coach Kwasi Appiah has the quality to succeed in his second coming.

Appiah was named by the Ghana FA ahead of Willy Sagnol and Hugo Broos last Tuesday.

Hailing the decision to re-appoint the ex-Asante Kotoko defender who was his protégé at the Ghana national team nine years ago, Le Roy said quality and dedication not colour should be the basis for appointments.

“For me, there is no problem about the colour of the coach because we have good foreign coaches and bad ones, same applies to the local ones.

“What is important is to pick a good coach who is dedicated to his team, to the country and wants to produce something great no matter the nationality.

“The more important thing is to be dedicated to the job and the man Kwasi Appiah is a man of high quality, very honest, very loyal…” he told Nhyira FM.

Appiah was an assistant to Le Roy during the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations hosted by Ghana.

He is expected to arrive from Sudanese club Al-Khartoum to sign an agreed two-year deal before officially kicking off duties on May 1.
