Women’s League kick-starts April 29

The women’s league is set to commence on April 29, the Ghana Women’s League Board (WLB) has announced.

The fifth edition of the National Women’s League will begin two weeks later than the earlier April 15 set by the WLB. The decision to delay the start of the new domestic female soccer season was confirmed by Roselyn Amoh, the deputy chairperson for Board to Starr Sports.

“Coach Sam Arday’s funeral comes off next week and looking at the role he and other departed coaches have played in football, we decided to seek approval from the GFA if we could reschedule our matches,” Roselyn explained.

“The Super Cup will come off on April 22 and the league will follow on April 29,” she added.

There are 16 teams participating in the 2017 Women’s league just like last season with a division into two sectors. The northern and southern sectors of eight teams each.

The Northern sector comprises Kumasi Sports Academy, Fabulous Ladies, Ashtown Ladies, Ampem Darkoa Ladies (Champions) , Prison Ladies, Lepo Ladies, Real Upper Ladies, and Northern Ladies.

The Southern sector also comprises Sea Lions FC, Hasaacas Ladies (3-time champions), Holy Royals, Police Ladies, Immigration Ladies, Soccer Intellectuals, Samaria Ladies, and Lady Strikers.

The Super Cup will be between Champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies and Sanford Women’s FA Cup champions Police Ladies.
