‘Clubs are quoting explosive prices for players’ – Michael Osei

Kumasi Asante Kotoko acting head coach, Michael Osei has revealed their inability to make additions to the current squad is due to high prices clubs are citing for players.

Kotoko placed fifth on the log in the 2015/2016 Ghana Premier League. Concerns after the season ended have come from supporters and football analysts to beef up the squad should they expect to perform better in the upcoming season.

The Porcupines’ technical team led by Osei are looking at strengthening their team ahead of the new season but they believe their efforts to purchase new players is being restricted by high price tags quoted by clubs on the players they are pursuing.

“We are trying to sign some new players. It hasn’t been easy but we are in the process. Our constraint has been the expensive prices being named for players by some clubs. For me some of the prices are too high for some players but we are still in pursuit of the players we need. We just hope the clubs reduce the high amounts being named,” Osei revealed.

Kotoko have already signed Isaac Quansah, Conney Idan and Prince Acquah who are all central midfielders and played in the just ended GHALCA G6 Tournament. Osei however disclosed the playing departments he needs to strengthen with new players.

“I need about three to four more players, at least a clinical striker, backups for my wingers [Sarfo Gyamfi and Emmanuel Gyamfi] and a holding midfielder. So in all about four good additions will be good fo the team as we enter the new season,” he said.

Asante Kotoko are preparing for the upcoming Ghana Football calendar at the club’s training facility at Adako Jachie which begins next year but exact date not decided by the Ghana Football Association
