Ghanaian winger Mohammed Kudus has been handed an extra two-match suspension following his red card during West Ham United’s 4-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur last month.
The ruling, issued by the English Football Association (FA) on Wednesday, November 6, comes after a review of the incident in the 82nd minute of the match.
Kudus was involved in a confrontation with Dutch defender Micky van de Ven, during which he was accused of punching van de Ven in the face. Kudus also shoved Tottenham midfielder Pape Matar Sarr, further escalating the on-field altercation.
Although referee Andy Madley initially issued a yellow card for the foul, a VAR review upgraded the decision to a red card for violent conduct. As a result, Kudus received an automatic three-match suspension.
However, following further investigation, the FA charged Kudus with an additional instance of violent conduct, leading to an extended two-game suspension.
This means Kudus has already missed West Ham’s recent fixtures against Manchester United and Nottingham Forest.
The suspension will now see the 24-year-old sidelined for the upcoming matches against Newcastle United on November 25 and Arsenal on November 30. He is expected to return to action when West Ham faces Everton this weekend.
