Former Ghana U-17 coach, Laryea Kingston, has backed Black Stars head coach Otto Addo, insisting that a change in leadership is unnecessary following the team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Ghana’s absence from the continental tournament marks the first time in 20 years that the Black Stars have missed out on AFCON, a setback that has sparked widespread criticism of Addo.
The team’s disappointing campaign saw them fail to win a single match, earning just three points from six games and scoring only three goals.
In an interview with Flashscore, Kingston expressed his belief that the focus should remain on improving the current setup rather than seeking a change in leadership.
“For me at the moment, we shouldn’t change anything.think Otto is even disappointed in himself.
“And I believe by now he’s trying to ask himself questions about what really happened and what he can do to improve it.”
Ghana failed to win a game in six qualification matches in a group that had Angola, Niger and Sudan. The failure to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations is the first for the Black Stars since 2004.
Ghana Football Association’s Executive Council meet on Wednesday to assess the team’s performance and discuss the next steps for the Black Stars.
