Athletic Bilbao striker Inaki Williams is set to miss Ghana’s crucial final qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) against Angola and Niger due to a hamstring injury.
The Spanish club confirmed that the 30-year-old forward sustained the injury ahead of their La Liga fixture against Real Valladolid, which is set to take place at the José Zorrilla Stadium.
In a statement, Athletic Club announced, “The forward will be unavailable for Sunday’s La Liga clash with Real Valladolid after straining his left hamstring muscles.”
This setback also means Williams will miss his planned involvement with the Black Stars, as he was recently named in Ghana’s 25-man squad for the final qualification matches.
Williams, who has scored five goals so far this season, is expected to undergo further scans on Monday to determine the full extent of the injury.
The Black Stars are set to open their training camp in Accra on Sunday, holding sessions at the Accra Sports Stadium before traveling to Luanda for their Matchday Five clash against Angola on November 15 at the Estádio 11 de Novembro.
They will then return to host Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium three days later. Ghana currently sits third in Group F with only two points from four matches, trailing both Angola and Sudan.
