The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has reaffirmed its support for Black Stars coach Otto Addo, despite recent criticisms over the team’s performance in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Neil Armstrong-Mortagbe, Head of Public Relations and Strategy at the GFA, confirmed the association’s confidence in Addo, even as the team remains winless after four games and currently sits third in Group F with just two points.
In an interview with Metro TV, Armstrong-Mortagbe acknowledged the growing frustration among fans, some of whom have called for Addo’s dismissal.
However, he emphasized that the GFA’s Executive Council remains committed to the coach’s long-term vision.
“The FA engaged Otto Addo on a long-term basis, and based on his early performances against Mali and the Central African Republic, we believe there’s potential for growth for the nearly three years he was engaged for,” he said.
“Our AFCON qualifying series hasn’t gone as we hoped, but he remains in charge with the backing of the FA and the Executive Council.
“We expect to see improvements in our upcoming World Cup qualifiers, showing that what happened previously was an anomaly, not a trend.”
Ghana will continue its AFCON qualifiers with high stakes as the team looks to secure a spot in the 2025 tournament in Morocco.
The Black Stas are set to face Angola on November 15 at the Estádio 11 de Novembro in Luanda, followed by a home game against Niger on November 18 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
