Hearts of Oak recorded an emphatic away victory against Medeama SC in match-week 9 of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League on Friday night.
At the Tarkwa and Abosso Stadium, the Phobians displayed resilience to win 0-2 against their hosts who had hoped to bounce back to winning ways after their 2-2 draw at Aduana.
How important is this victory for the Rainbow Boys? Well, it’s their third of the league campaign after nine games – a difficult season where they have lost three games and registered stalemates in three matches.
What more? It’s their second away win after four duels so far in the league.
As a result, coach Aboubakar Ouattara’s tactical know-how has been questioned as fans have been calling for his dismissal, especially after the shocking 0-1 home loss to Bibiani GoldStars.
But at the dreaded TnA Stadium, new recruits, Kwabena Boateng and Mawuli Wayo made sure Ouattara’s job is safe, at least for the time being.
Boateng scored in the 63rd minute to put the Rainbow lads ahead.
The forward picked up a strike from Hamza Issah after Medeama goalkeeper Appiah Kubi failed to handle as the Phobians broke the deadlock.
With the game drawing to its closure, Wayo picked off Medeama’s eagerness to restore parity and extended the margin in the 88th minute.
Hearts will now play regional neighbours Vision FC while Medeama travel to Dreams for their next encounter.
Lineups:
Aboubakar Ouattara played Kelvin Osei Asibey in defence and opted for Kwabena Boateng and Hamza Issah upfront with Salim Adams operating as the attacking midfielder.
Medeama coach Nebosja Kapor opted for David Boison in attack alongside Diawisie Taylor. His defence had the dependable centre-back Emmanuel Cudjoe and Fatawu Sulemana as a left-back.
