FC Samartex continued their impressive home form with a dramatic stoppage-time victory over Legon Cities at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena on match-week 10 of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League.
The defending champions extended their winning streak to four consecutive home wins this season, thanks to a last-minute strike from Seidu Abubakari.
Despite a strong showing from Legon Cities, who had won their last two matches, the Royals were unable to hold on for a point. Samartex, who had been kept scoreless throughout the match by a resolute Legon Cities defence, found the breakthrough in the dying seconds as Abubakari curled in a stunning goal to break the deadlock.
The hard-fought win lifts FC Samartex to 4th place in the league standings with 17 points, just three behind leaders Bibiani Gold Stars. The Timber Giants will be pleased with the result, though coach Nurudeen Amadu will be aware that his side needs to improve their consistency going forward.
For Legon Cities, the loss was a bitter pill to swallow, especially after they had worked so hard to keep the champions at bay. The Royals, now with just 9 points, remain in the relegation zone and coach Fabin will be disappointed with how his team conceded so late in the game. He will be hoping for a swift recovery when Legon Cities host Basake Holy Stars in their next match.
FC Samartex will look to continue their positive run when they host another Premier League newcomer, Young Apostles, in their upcoming fixture.
