The Black Satellites of Ghana earned a hard-fought point in their opening match of the WAFU B U-20 Cup of Nations, drawing 2-2 with Benin today in Group A.
Ghana took an early lead with a goal from attacker Jerry Afriyie, creating a promising start for the team. However, Benin quickly responded, with goals from Modeste Konoudji and Gabriel Moulero turning the tide and giving the Beninese side a 2-1 lead by halftime.
In the second half, both teams ramped up their efforts to gain control. Despite trailing for much of the period, the Black Satellites found a crucial equalizer in the dying moments of the match when Afriyie scored again from the penalty spot, securing his second goal of the game and ensuring a 2-2 draw.
While the result may not have been a win, the Ghana U-20 team views it as a point earned as they prepare for their next fixture against Niger U-20 on Sunday, October 20.
With their fighting spirit on display, the Black Satellites remain optimistic about their chances of advancing in the tournament.
