No time for blame games, the GFA must fix Black Stars problems – Rashid Sumaila

Former Ghana defender Rashid Sumaila has shared his thoughts on the team’s current struggles in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The Black Stars, four-time AFCON champions, recently suffered a shocking 2-0 defeat to Sudan at the Benina Martyrs Stadium in Libya, putting their hopes of qualifying for the tournament in

This loss leaves the Black Stars at the verge of missing out of Africa’s flagship national team tourney for the first time since Tunisia 2004.

For Sumaila, who played for Ghana in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers, there’s light at the end of the tunnel and things will soon improve.

In an interview with Bryt FM, Sumaila encouraged a forward-looking approach, urging the team and leadership to focus on solutions rather than dwelling on the defeat.

“We’ve lost whether we like it or not, so I think it will be prudent for us to put it behind us and find solutions to our problems.

“We will continue to struggle if we keep apportioning blame instead of finding solutions.

“The leadership must sit down, assess themselves, fix the problems, and give the team time. I believe things will get better.”

Ghana play Angola and Niger in their final Group F matches in November, needing victories in both games while hoping that Sudan stumbles against these same opponents to have any chance of qualifying.

Angola has already booked their spot and Niger, mathematically, has no chance of qualifying.
