Former Ghana League Clubs Association(GHALCA) Chairman, J.Y Appiah has criticised Ghana’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Mustapha Ussif for Ghana’s failure in recent continental competitions.
The senior national team, Black Stars, are on the verge of not booking a spot for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Ghana also exited the 2021 and 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in the group stage, a record that dents the image of the country’s football.
Speaking to Oyerepa Radio, J.Y Appiah asserted that Ghana’s Minister of Sports has been ignorant in supervising the running of the Black Stars and other national teams.
“The Minister has failed and he needs to sit up because it is disgraceful that this government has supervised two Afcon exits.
“And now, Ghana is hoping Sudan loses the two remaining games for the Afcon qualifiers and we have invested huge sums into the team’s affairs.
“Ghana Premier League has no sponsor and our clubs are quiet because they fear relegation and threats.
The astute football administrator continued: “Even if we focus on the national teams, the GFA provided a criteria to appoint a coach and Otto Addo was not fit for the same criteria. That was where the Minister should have stepped in.
“He has been disappointing and it’s time Hon. Ussif speaks to the GFA executives.”
Ghana’s national teams have been in action this month; Black Satellites are playing in the Wafu B U-20 Cup of Nations, the Beach soccer team, Black Sharks have lost two games at the Afcon currently ongoing in Egypt.
