Ghana has dropped three places in the latest FIFA World Rankings, released on Thursday, October 24, 2024.
The Black Stars now sit 73rd globally, having fallen from 70th position, with their points tally decreasing from 1360 to 1338.
The decline follows disappointing performances in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. Ghana played out a goalless draw against Sudan in Accra two weeks ago, only to suffer a 2-0 defeat in the reverse fixture against Libya.
These results have left Ghana precariously placed in Group F with just two points from four matches, putting them on the verge of elimination. In contrast, Sudan is now second in the group with seven points.
Despite their recent struggles, Ghana remains 14th in Africa. Morocco leads the continent, ranked 13th globally, with Senegal (20th), Egypt (30th), and Nigeria (36th) among the top African teams.
Other notable African rankings include Algeria (37th), Côte d’Ivoire (40th), and Cape Verde (72nd), just ahead of Ghana.
The Black Stars will need to improve their performances if they hope to avoid missing out on next year’s AFCON tournament.
Ghana will face Angola and Niger to finish the Nations Cup qualifications for Morocco 2025.
