Ghana coach Otto Addo shares thoughts on “Galamsey”

Black Stars of Ghana coach, Otto Addo has opened up on his thoughts on illegal mining(Galamsey) that has affected known river bodies in the West African country.

The government has been urged to curb illegal mining operations in forest and water regions by concerned citizens who have been demonstrating in Accra for the past two weeks.

Ghana plays Sudan in a crucial double-header for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, mid-October.

Otto Addo was speaking at the squad announcement on Friday at a press interview at the Ghana Football Association conference hall.

“You know, there are a lot of things that have also distracted me; maybe I’ve questioned myself as well, asking what I could have done better.

“If, let’s say, I have an accident, there’s nothing I can do about it.

“But, you know, there are other distractions within the team, and for us, to be honest, it’s about focusing on Sudan and nothing else.

“After we win, then we can talk about every other topic.”

Ghana is set to face Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday, October 10, before traveling to Libya for the second leg at the Martyrs of Benina Stadium in Benina on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.

Otto Addo’s side aim to secure one of the top two spots in Group F to qualify for the AFCON tournament, scheduled from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026 in Morocco.
