Former GFA Boss Kwesi Nyantakyi sues Dan Kweku Yeboah, Peace FM, others over $2 million embezzlement allegation

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kwesi Nyantakyi has filed a lawsuit against journalist Dan Kweku Yeboah, along with Pulse Ghana and GhanaWeb, for allegedly publishing defamatory claims accusing him of embezzling $2 million from GFA accounts.

Nyantakyi, who previously served as a member of the FIFA Council, argues that these allegations are “reckless and defamatory,” denying any misuse of GFA funds.

In the lawsuit, Nyantakyi asserts that Yeboah’s statements, which were subsequently reported by the media outlets, falsely implicated him in financial misconduct.

He argues that these claims have caused him significant reputational damage and public distress, stating, “The allegations are not only baseless but were published with the malicious intent to harm my reputation.”

According to the legal filing, Yeboah’s statement, “President Kwesi Nyantakyi nkoa koyii GFA Sika two million dollars ($2m) efiri Unibank ko di ye” — translated as “President Kwesi Nyantakyi alone went to Unibank and withdrew GFA’s two million dollars and misappropriated it for his personal benefit” — was deliberately aimed at painting him as corrupt in the eyes of the public.

Nyantakyi’s lawsuit further claims that the named media outlets amplified these allegations without verifying their accuracy.

His legal team argues this amounts to irresponsible journalism, noting that there was no attempt to corroborate the story with credible sources.

The lawsuit describes the allegations as “wicked, malicious, and a deliberate falsehood,” intended to damage Nyantakyi’s image and reputation.

Nyantakyi is seeking damages and a formal retraction from all parties involved.

The lawsuit highlights his demand for redress and accountability, underscoring his commitment to restoring his public and professional reputation following what he calls “baseless and harmful” accusations.
