Antoine Semenyo shines as Bournemouth defeat Southampton 3-1

Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo was the standout performer as AFC Bournemouth secured a 3-1 victory over Southampton at the Vitality Stadium on Monday night.

Semenyo was instrumental throughout, playing a key part in all three Bournemouth goals as they claimed a vital win.

The Cherries took the lead in the 17th minute when Semenyo won a quick free kick, leading to Evanilson’s opener after a neat assist from Marcus Tavernier.

Bournemouth doubled their advantage 15 minutes later, with Dango Ouattara finishing off a move involving Semenyo and Lewis Cook.

The 23-year-old capped off his fine display by scoring Bournemouth’s third goal in the 39th minute, again assisted by Cook, to give the hosts a commanding 3-0 lead before the break.

Southampton responded early in the second half, with Taylor Harwood-Bellis heading home from a set piece in the 51st minute.

Despite controlling 60% of possession and making several changes, the Saints couldn’t break through Bournemouth’s solid defence.

Semenyo’s goal, his third of the season, helped lift Bournemouth to 11th place in the league with eight points.

The Cherries now turn their attention to their next fixture against Leicester City.
