Alhaji Grusah: George Amoako asked for $50k World Cup appearance fee to prevent King Faisal’s relegation

Prominent Ghanaian football administrator Alhaji Grusah has made allegations against former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council member George Amoako, claiming he was asked to pay half of the 2022 World Cup appearance fee to ensure King Faisal’s survival in the Ghana Premier League.

In an interview on Akoma FM, Grusah recounted that Amoako, who was also the club’s CEO at the time, told him that without this payment, King Faisal would likely face relegation.

“I was asked by George Amoako, who was an Executive Council member, to bring 50% of the World Cup appearance fee, or else King Faisal would be relegated,” Grusah said.

Grusah went on to claim that after discovering he was the only member required to pay, he sought a refund of his money following the club’s eventual relegation.

“When the club was ultimately relegated, I went back to retrieve my money because the promise was not kept,” he explained.

These allegations raise questions about the transparency of league operations in Ghana and bring to light the pressures club owners may face within the league system.

The GFA has yet to respond to Grusah’s claims.
