The Municipal Chief Executive(MCE) of the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Assembly, Benjamin Kesse, has led a group of natives to sack officials of the National Sports Authority(NSA) from the new Tarkwa and Abosso(TnA) Stadium.
According to reports by local media, the MCE and some stakeholders of the town believe the stadium might end in a deplorable state should the NSA own the mandate to maintain the facility.
Background
The National Sports Authority are under public backlash for their failure to maintain the Baba Yara, Accra and Cape Coast Stadium’s, resulting to the ban by the Confederation of African Football(CAF)
Africa’s football governing body has instructed Ghana to choose a venue outside the country for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sudan and the Ghana Football Association(GFA) are yet to settle on a venue.
As a result, the Tarkwa Municipal had earlier stressed on managing the TNA Stadium and are now displaying eagerness to be the sole managers of the $16 million facility funded by Goldfields Ghana Limited.

Furthermore, the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Assembly have formed an Interim Management Committee (IMC), tasked with overseeing the daily operations and maintenance of the stadium moving forward.
The IMC, which includes representatives from various stakeholder groups in Tarkwa, will ensure the proper maintenance of the stadium to meet the required standards for hosting sporting events and other community activities.
“We cannot allow our stadium to fall into disrepair, especially when it plays such a vital role in the life of our community.
“This decision is in the best interest of Tarkwa and we expect the NSA to respect our decision,” Hon. Kesse said in an interview after the takeover.
Currently, the TnA Stadium hosts Medeama SC games in the Ghana Premier League.
The NSA is yet to respond officially to the community’s decision. In a different approach, yet relatable to that of Tarkwa, Ghana’s President has dismissed the National Sports Authority Boss, Mr. Dzodze Numekevor.
