Sudan record narrow victory over Niger in Afcon 2025 qualifier

Sudan kicked off their AFCON 2025 qualifying campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Niger on Wednesday.

The match, which marked the opening clash of Group F, saw Abobaker Mamoun Eisa netting the decisive goal in the 51st minute.

Under the guidance of head coach Kwesi Appiah, Sudan extended their unbeaten run to five competitive games.

The win propels Sudan to the top of the group standings, at least temporarily, as they await the outcome of Thursday’s encounter between Ghana and Angola.

This victory is a significant step for Sudan as they aim to secure a spot in the tournament in Morocco, having missed out on the last edition in Ivory Coast.

The Falcons of Jediane are determined to improve on their previous AFCON performance, where they were eliminated at the group stage in the 2021 edition in Cameroon.

Kwesi Appiah’s tenure with Sudan has shown promise, with the team yet to suffer a defeat in competitive fixtures since his appointment.

The win against Niger could set the tone for Sudan’s resurgence on the continental stage.
