Southampton and Ghanaian winger Kamaldeen Sulemana’s anticipated move to Ajax has fallen through due to a delay in the submission of crucial documents on transfer deadline day.
The winger was set to join the Dutch club on a season-long loan with an option to buy for approximately €20 million.
The move hinged on Ajax making space for Sulemana in their squad, which was expected to happen with the departure of Steve Bergwijn to Saudi club Al-Ittihad.
However, the timing proved problematic as Bergwijn’s transfer was finalized too late, delaying the necessary paperwork for Sulemana’s transfer.
Despite efforts from all parties involved, FIFA denied a request to process the late submission, as confirmed by Dutch journalist Mike Verweij.
As a result, Sulemana’s move to Ajax could not be completed within the required timeframe.
The 22-year-old winger will now remain at Southampton for the remainder of the 2024-25 season, where he will focus on recovering from injury and contributing to Russell Martin’s squad in their Premier League campaign.
