NSA denies claims of Tarkwa MCE’s takeover of TnA stadium

The National Sports Authority (NSA) has dismissed reports suggesting that the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Tarkwa, Benjamin Kessie, has taken control of the TnA Stadium.

A controversy has emerged after the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Assembly, led by Mr. Kessie, reportedly decided to terminate its contract with the NSA regarding the management of the facility.

In response, the NSA has issued a statement clarifying that the facility, handed over to them only a month ago, remains under their control.

The statement emphasized that rumours of mismanagement are unfounded and appear to exploit challenges the authority is facing in other regions.

“The said news seeks to create a false impression that the stadium, which was handed over to the NSA just a month ago, has been run down,” the NSA noted.

“For the record, with support from the Goldfields Foundation and the imposition of user fees on football clubs, we have maintained the stadium to a high standard.”

The NSA also reassured the public that it is committed to protecting state-owned sporting facilities.

They further denied any community-driven attempt to seize control of the stadium, instead pointing to what they describe as “powerful stakeholders” seeking to monopolize the venue’s usage.

“The stadium is a national facility, and the NSA, as empowered by law, will ensure equal access for all users and sports,” the statement concluded.

Meanwhile, MCE Benjamin Kessie has set up a five-member committee, chaired by James Essilfie, to oversee the management of the stadium.

The T&A Stadium, located in Tarkwa, serves as the home ground for Ghana Premier League side Medeama SC.
