After overcoming early challenges in adapting to Swedish football, Ghanaian striker Jalal Abdullai is now focused on helping IF Elfsborg secure a spot in European competitions, a goal that has eluded the club in recent years.
Jalal, who joined Elfsborg from Inter Allies FC in 2023, initially struggled to find his footing in the Allsvenskan.
“It took a while to adapt, so it was a bit difficult for me at the beginning,” he admitted.
“But the coaching staff is good, and we have a good relationship. My teammates are both very good players and good people who have helped me a lot in my first year.”
Now, having settled into his role and netting 12 goals in 36 appearances, the 19-year-old is looking ahead with clear ambitions.
Jalal is determined to help Elfsborg break into the Uefa competitions, a milestone that the club has been striving for.
“Since I came to IF Elfsborg, I have had the dream that we will play in Europe,” Abdullai said.
“That remains my focus, and I believe we have the potential to achieve it. I want to help the team to be at the top of the Allsvenskan every year and for us to make it to the European Games regularly.”
While Elfsborg has yet to secure a place in Uefa competitions, Abdullai’s commitment and drive are seen as key factors in the club’s pursuit of this goal.
“The most important thing for me is always to win,” he emphasized.
“If I can score goals and help the team, that’s good, but regardless of goals or not, I want to help us win.”
With Jalal Abdullai’s sights set on Europe, his journey from a challenging start to becoming a vital player for Elfsborg underlines his potential to lead the club to new heights.
