It’s exciting to work with Otto Addo – Majeed Ashimeru

Ghana midfielder Majeed Ashimeru believes the Black Stars have the potential to succeed under head coach Otto Addo.

Addo was reappointed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in March, signing a 34-month contract with the option for a 24-month extension.

His tenure began positively, with back-to-back victories in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic. However, Ghana’s path to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has been more challenging.

Currently third in Group F with just one point, following a 1-0 defeat to Angola and a 1-1 draw with Niger, the Black Stars are off to their worst AFCON qualifying start since 1961.

Ghana’s chances of qualifying for next year’s tournament in Morocco now hang in the balance.

Despite the difficult start, Ashimeru remains optimistic about Addo’s leadership and believes success is still possible.

“It’s amazing to be called up because we have so many talented players in Ghana,” the Anderlecht midfielder told Flashscore

“Working with Otto Addo is something I’ve been looking forward to. He’s a good coach, and I feel we have a lot to accomplish together. It’s exciting to work with him,” he added.

The Black Stars will first host the Falcons at a venue yet to be announced, before traveling to Libya for the return leg at the Martyrs of February Stadium.
