Inaki Williams’ strike seals win for Athletic Club against Leganes

Inaki Williams came off the bench to score in Athletic Club’s 2-0 victory against Leganes on Thursday.

Although included in Bilbao’s La Liga matchday squad, the Black Stars forward did not start the game and was brought on in the 56th minute, replacing Alvaro Djalo with the score still at 0-0. His introduction made an immediate impact as Athletic Club opened the scoring just 10 minutes later, when Dani Vivian converted a pass from Gorka Guruzeta to give the visitors the lead.

Williams solidified the win in the 75th minute, capitalizing on an assist from Andoni Gorosabel to find the back of the net and double Athletic Club’s advantage.

His impressive performance underscores his importance to the team, and he is expected to be a key player for Athletic Club throughout the 2024/25 season.

With this win, Athletic Club has climbed to 5th place in the La Liga standings ahead of their Round 8 fixture against Celta Vigo on Sunday, September 22.
