Former MOYS Chief Nii Lante Vanderpuye vows to ‘sanitize’ Ghana football if re-appointed

Former Sports Minister Nii Lante Vanderpuye has expressed his intent to return to his former role at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, with a strong commitment to reviving Ghanaian football.

In a recent interview with JoySports, the Member of Parliament stated his determination to bring order and reform to the sport if the National Democratic Congress (NDC) wins the 2024 presidential elections.

“If I have the opportunity to become Sports Minister in 2025, I will clean up football,” Vanderpuye declared, signaling his ambition to overhaul the current system.

The former minister was direct in his assessment of the sport’s current state, describing it as being in urgent need of reform. He warned that without decisive action, Ghanaian football would continue to decline.

“I’m not happy with what’s happening. There are many issues plaguing our football, and unless we take bold steps to fix the system and prioritize the interests of players, rather than businessmen, football will not progress,” Vanderpuye said.

The national team’s struggles have raised concerns about the state of football in Ghana, with calls for widespread reforms.

Also, Vanderpuye has vowed to address some of the most pressing issues, including the deteriorating condition of stadium pitches, which he believes is hampering player development and the overall quality of the game.
