Elisha Owusu: Auxerre midfielder talks life in Black Stars, Andre Ayew and KP Boateng

Auxerre midfielder Elisha Owusu has expressed his pride in representing Ghana on the international stage.

Born in France to Ghanaian parents, Owusu initially played for France at youth levels before making the decision to switch nationalities and represent the Black Stars.

The former Olympique Lyonnais player was part of Ghana’s squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Reflecting on his journey, Owusu described his national team call-up as a childhood dream come true.

“It’s a blessing to play for my country,” Owusu shared in an interview with Flashscore.

“I am very happy to go on international duty. As a kid, I always dreamt of playing for Ghana, and now that it’s happening, I see it as a true blessing.”

Owusu also spoke about the footballing icons who inspired him growing up, mentioning former Black Stars players Kevin-Prince Boateng and current captain Andre Ayew.

He highlighted Ayew’s influence in France, where the ex-Marseille star holds legendary status.

“Growing up, I used to watch Kevin-Prince Boateng a lot. I loved him as a kid. And Andre Ayew, too—he’s the ‘big big’ man in France.

“To have the chance to play alongside him in the national team was a huge honour for me.”

Owusu’s decision to represent Ghana marks a significant chapter in his career, as he continues to contribute to the national team’s future.
