Ghana’s Black Princesses are on the verge of a seventh consecutive group stage exit at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup following a 4-1 loss to 2018 champions, Japan, in their second group match of the 2024 tournament in Colombia.
The defeat, which took place in Bogotá on Thursday night, leaves Ghana bottom of their group with no points and just one game remaining.
To advance, the Black Princesses must win their final group match against New Zealand on Sunday, 8 September, and hope to qualify as one of the best third-placed teams.
Ghana has yet to progress past the group stage in their previous six tournament appearances.
