Besiktas and Ghana defender Daniel Amartey part ways by mutual consent

Besiktas have confirmed that they have mutually agreed to terminate the contract of Ghanaian defender Daniel Amartey.

The 29-year-old, who joined the Turkish side from Leicester City during the 2023-24 Super Lig season, is now a free agent. During his time at Besiktas, Amartey made 18 appearances for the club.

Earlier this month, Besiktas spokesperson Huseyin Yucel claimed that Daniel Amartey had occasionally tried to leave the training ground to avoid discussions about his future. Yucel also revealed that the club had reached an agreement with a Saudi Arabian team for his transfer, but Amartey never boarded the flight.

Amartey was reportedly unclear about how the transfer window worked, mistakenly believing he could return to England after the deadline had passed.

The reason behind the decision has not been disclosed, but the termination leaves Amartey free to explore new opportunities ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
