Pay better salaries to maintain top players in Ghana – Caleb Amankwah tells GPL clubs

Former Hearts of Oak defender Caleb Amankwah has urged Ghanaian clubs to prioritize better salaries of players to reduce player exodus.

Amankwah, who recently signed for Ethiopian side Commercial Bank FC after departing Hearts of Oak and claims players are well paid over there compared to Ghana.

Asante Kotoko lost Richmond Lamptey to APR FC and Seidu Dauda Yussif after winning the league with FC Samartex, has joined the same club.

“If there is money in Ghana, we will stay and play in the Ghana Premier League,” Amankwah said in an interview with Asempa FM.

“If you have a key player and you allow him to leave, what benefit will you get? Which player will the supporter come to the stadium to watch?

“They should give the players the money to stay and play in the Ghana Premier League.”

The Ghanaian top-flight commences on September 6, 2024 and Samartex will be defending their league crown.

The Timber Giants are competing in the Caf Champions League and it is expected that more of their top players will exit the country after the 2024/25 season.
