Jordan Ayew joining Leicester City in £8m deal

Premier League returnees Leicester City are on the verge of securing forward Jordan Stew as their seventh signing of the summer.

The Ghana international is reportedly undergoing a medical ahead of an £8 million transfer from Crystal Palace.

The Foxes have prioritized attacking reinforcements in the final week of the transfer window, and interest in the experienced forward, which surfaced weeks ago, has now advanced significantly.

The clubs have agreed on a fee, with £5 million to be paid upfront. The deal could be finalized before Leicester’s first away match of the season against Fulham on Saturday.

Ayew, who turns 33 next month, has played across various positions throughout his career but has predominantly operated as a wide player in recent seasons. Leicester are expected to utilize him in a similar role, with his arrival not impacting their ongoing search for a new striker before the transfer deadline.

During his six seasons with Crystal Palace, Ayew has been a consistent presence, featuring in 35 Premier League games last season, starting 30 of them. He ended the campaign with four goals and seven assists. While known for his work rate and pressing, Ayew has not been prolific in front of goal, scoring only 12 times in his last 148 appearances for the Eagles.

Ayew’s addition brings further experience to Leicester’s squad, complementing a summer of acquisitions that includes compatriot Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, Bobby De Cordova-Reid, Michael Golding, Caleb Okoli, Facundo Buonanotte, and Oliver Skipp.

Jordan Ayew reunites with Leicester boss Steve Cooper, under whom he previously worked at Swansea City.
