Ghana eyes brighter Olympic future with new sports initiative post-Paris 2024

Ghana is looking ahead to a brighter future in Olympic sports after a challenging performance at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has announced an ambitious new initiative, the “Olympics Glory Programme,” aimed at bolstering the country’s chances at the Los Angeles 2028 Games.

“We are going to start an Olympics Glory Programme by dedicating resources towards the preparation of our athletes and their readiness for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics”

The Olympics Glory Programme is set to address these challenges by providing athletes with access to better facilities, coaching, and international competitions in the lead-up to Los Angeles 2028.

Dr. Bawumia’s announcement has been met with cautious optimism by sports enthusiasts, who see it as a crucial step toward ending Ghana’s Olympic medal drought.

The Paris 2024 Olympics, which concluded recently, saw Ghana send a delegation of eight athletes, competing in track and field events and swimming.

Despite their best efforts, the team returned home without any medals, a result that has prompted calls for a renewed focus on sports development in the country.
