GFA Takes Aim at Betting Companies in Fight Against Match-Fixing

President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Kurt Okraku, has announced that no betting company has been authorized to offer odds on Ghana Premier League (GPL) matches.

The GFA’s legal team is preparing to address betting companies that continue to include GPL games in their offerings. This move is seen as a critical step in tackling match-fixing concerns in the league.

The previous season saw suspicious scorelines, leading some betting companies to remove GPL matches from their platforms.

During the 30th Ordinary Congress in Prampram, Okraku stated, “We have not licensed any betting company to take odds on our games. Our legal department will confront this issue directly. Betting companies should not profit from our football without proper authorization.”

He added, “We’re open to legitimate partnerships. Companies interested in collaborating with us should approach us directly.”

Okraku stressed that GPL matches should be excluded from betting markets without GFA approval.

His administration has demonstrated a firm stance against match-fixing, evidenced by the relegation of Inter Allies and the indefinite suspension of AshantiGold for match manipulation.

The Congress also marked the beginning of the countdown to the new season, set to commence on September 6.
