Baba Yara Stadium will be ready for Ghana-Angola clash – NSA assures

Board Chairman of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Seth Panwum has assured that the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi will be ready to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier between Ghana and Angola.

The Black Stars are scheduled to play in Kumasi in just 13 days, but the stadium’s current condition has raised concerns.

The playing surface of the stadium is in poor shape after hosting a large church event, leaving the facility unfit for Ghana’s opening qualifier for next year’s tournament.

However, Panwum has provided reassurances that efforts are underway to restore the stadium to top condition.

Panwum spoke in an interview with GTV Sports Plus.

“The place was given out for a program. I had to review their recovery plan, and I think they are right on track.

“I received updates yesterday and this morning from Kumasi, and I believe all hands are on deck to meet the deadline. In a few days’ time, the pitch should be in 200% perfect condition for the game.”

Panwum also mentioned that the contractor responsible for the stadium’s upkeep is on-site, focusing on finalizing work on the media and press centers—critical areas that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) insists must be up to standard.

Despite the tight timeline, Panwum remains confident that the stadium will be fully prepared to host the crucial AFCON qualifier.
