2024/25 Caf CL: Samartex ready for Victoria United with 18-player travelling squad

FC Samartex 1996 head coach Nurudeen Amadu has revealed his 18-man squad for their upcoming 2024/25 Caf Champions League first preliminary round fixture against Cameroon’s Victoria United.

The 2023/24 Ghana Premier League champions, debutants in the competition, will make their continental bow this weekend.

The first leg of the tie will take place on Sunday, August 18, at the multipurpose Japoma Stadium in Douala. Kickoff is 15:00 GMT.

Amadu has expressed confidence in his team’s ability to secure a positive result in Cameroon.

Reflecting on a recent goalless pre-season draw against Togolese side ASKO de Kara, he highlighted the defensive discipline displayed by his players, noting, “We defended very well, and the team was well-coordinated in their movement.”

Amadu added that despite creating few chances, the team’s steady progress is encouraging.

“We are teaming up well, and that is very positive. I’m happy with the progress we’re making. To me, this result gives us a good foundation as we prepare for our first match in Cameroon.”

The reverse fixture is scheduled to take place at the Accra Sports Stadium.

A successful outcome over the two legs would see Samartex advance to face either ASGNN of Niger or Moroccan giants Raja Club Athletic in the second preliminary round.
