Asante Kotoko have secured the services of promising defender Patrick Asiedu from Berekum Chelsea.
The 21-year-old left-back has made a notable impact in the Ghana Premier League (GPL), amassing nearly 50 appearances despite his young age.
Asiedu’s signing follows the earlier acquisition of Sudanese left-back Esmat Abdulhamid Mohamed, highlighting the club’s commitment to strengthening its defensive lineup. The new recruits have now replaced Nicholas Osei Bonsu and John Tedeku, who departed at the end of the 2023/24 season.
Head Coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum expressed his excitement over the new addition, stating, “We have been monitoring his progress closely, and we believe he has the qualities to thrive in our system and help us achieve our objectives this season.”
Dr. Ogum further emphasized the strategic importance of Asiedu’s role, adding, “In modern football, the role of a left back is pivotal not only in defense but also in initiating attacks. Patrick’s versatility and understanding of the game align perfectly with our tactical approach. His presence will undoubtedly create more balance and options for us on the left flank.”
Asiedu, reflecting on his move to Kotoko, shared his enthusiasm: “I used to attend Kotoko matches with a dream of playing for this club. Even though I am a defender, I always admired Eric Bekoe and I hope to meet him. Obviously, this is a big club and I am ready to give my all.”
Asante Kotoko is poised to leverage Asiedu’s talent and experience as they aim for a successful 2024/25 season ahead.
