Afcon 2025Q: Kingston calls for more attacking Black Stars

Former Ghana midfielder Laryea Kingston urges Otto Addo to adopt a more offensive strategy for the Black Stars as they prepare for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Ghana has been placed in Group F alongside Sudan (coached by ex-Ghana manager Kwesi Appiah), Angola, and Niger. The top two teams from the group will advance to the tournament in Morocco.

Kingston, who closely followed the draw, believes an attacking style would suit the team better than a cautious approach.

“Otto Addo’s recent games with the Black Stars yielded positive results, so he should maintain his strategy,” Kingston told 3Sports. “While some criticized the performances against Mali and CAR, winning despite subpar play is beneficial. However, Addo must consider how to improve the team’s performance while maintaining good results.”

Kingston added, “Addo should aim to control the game and secure wins for Ghana. He shouldn’t feel overly pressured. The recent victories should boost his confidence, but he needs to address the lackluster first-half performances.”

“The team showed improvement in the second half of both recent matches. Addo should build on this and start future games with a more aggressive, attacking style similar to those second-half displays,” Kingston concluded.
