Winning the GPL is a dream come true for FC Samartex – Head coach Nurudeen Amadu

FC Samartex has secured their first-ever Ghana Premier League title following a nail-biting 1-0 victory over Bibiani Goldstars at home on Matchweek 32.

The decisive win has catapulted the Timber Boys to the pinnacle of Ghanaian football, marking a momentous achievement for the club.

The winning goal, which sealed the league for Samartex, was met with euphoria from fans and players alike, capping off a remarkable season.

Head Coach Nurudeen Amadu, who has been pivotal in the club’s success, shared his thoughts on the victory in an interview with Akoma FM.

“It’s a dream come true,” Amadu expressed with palpable emotion. “Not many people at Samartex, including the fans, knew who I was. Winning the league is a huge accomplishment because the goal was to finish higher than last season, not to win the league.”

Amadu’s journey to the top has been an inspiring one. “A big thanks to Prof Mintah who recommended me to Samartex,” he said, acknowledging the support that brought him to the club. “Many thanks also to Edmund Ackah, who believed in me a lot.”

Looking ahead, Amadu is already setting his sights on the next challenge; competing in the CAF Champions League.

The coach remains optimistic about bolstering the team’s roster to face the continental giants.

“While we are still celebrating, management will meet later to talk about strengthening the team with more seasoned players for traveling to Africa, as the majority of our players are from lower divisions,” Amadu explained.

“We will attempt to emulate Medeama and Dreams FC in Africa and see if we can accomplish their feats. If we don’t succeed, that’s okay, but I believe their actions should serve as inspiration for us to compete in Africa.”

As FC Samartex celebrates this landmark achievement, the journey from underdogs two seasons ago to champions is a testament to the hard work of everyone involved with the club.

With their eyes now set on the continental stage, the club from Samreboi in the Western Region are ready to take on Africa, driven by the belief that they can achieve greatness beyond the borders of Ghana.
