Berekum Chelsea’s Stephen Amankona is elated for winning the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League goal king.
The winger bagged 19 goals to beat Dreams FC forward Agyenim Boateng on the top scorers chart.
Speaking in an interview on Akwaaba FM, Amankonah expressed excitement for finishing as the top marksman for the top-flight.
“I give thanks to God for winning the goal King. I knew I had to improve on my return from Asante Kotoko.
Honestly, I had the belief that I will win it in the second round and I never got perturbed even when Agyenim Boateng scored five goals against RTU.”
Amankona also responded to media allegations claiming Berekum Chelsea manipulated games to aid his ambition of winning the top scorer.
“Infact, I dont pay attention to such claims. I have never done anything to affect my game as my focus is always at the latter stages of the season was to keep scoring.”
Stephen Amankona’s 19 goals places him behind Yaw Annor’s 22 goals which is the highest number of goals by a top scorer in the last four seasons – the 18-team Ghana Premier League.
