Bernard Tekpetey contemplates on playing for Bulgaria national team

Ghanaian forward Bernard Tekpetey might ditch the ambition of playing for the Black Stars as calls to feature for the Bulgarian national team still exists.

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, Tekpetey revealed that he plans to consult with his family before making a final decision.

“It always circulates about my nationality switch because I have a Bulgarian passport. It is a very important decision that I will take with my family before leaving for pre-season,” he said.

“Definitely, you will know of my decision before I leave for Bulgaria.” Tekpetey, 26, also stated that he was looking for a new challenge in club football.

“The transfer window is already open and there are clubs I am speaking to. I hope I can face a different challenge in a new league as well.”

Last season, Tekpetey scored 15 goals and provided 10 assists in all competitions for Ludogorets.

Ghana coach Otto Addo is yet to name the player in his setup since returning in March.

For Otto, Brandon Thomas Asante, Antoine Semenyo, Inaki Williams and Jordan Ayew are the preferred players for his games.

Bernard Tekpetey was named in Ghana’s squad for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations and played in the 1-0 defeat against Egypt.
