Otto Addo explains reasons for omitting Andre Ayew from Black Stars squad

Ghana coach Otto Addo has omitted the long-serving player and captain Andre Ayew, ahead of the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers against Mali and Central African Republic.

The Black Stars trainer announced his 26-man squad, Wednesday morning and is expected to guide the lads in the quest to earn qualification for the global tourney.

Otto Addo spoke on why the Ghanaian skipper, Andrew Dede Ayew missed out on the squad and if he will be called back in the coming days,

“I had a long talk with Andre and gave him the reason why he is not in the squad. I talk to players directly I don’t like to put information out about what we spoke about.

“This is the decision we took and it’s not like he necessarily agreed but I still have big respect for him.

“I will never say never because I don’t know what will happen next season, the door is always open and the decision is for this period and that’s it, but never say never.”

Coach Otto has named Thomas Partey as the new captain of the side.

Ghana will play Mali on June 6 at the Stade du 26 Mars in Bamako before the CAR game in Kumasi, on June 10.
