New Management to takeover AshantiGold SC – Dr. Kwaku Frimpong

Former AshantiGold President, Dr. Kwaku Frimpong, stands firm in his resolve to witness the club from Obuasi reclaim its past glory amid a period of reformation and handover to new leadership.

In an interview with Asempa FM, Dr. Frimpong disclosed that negotiations with AngloGold Ashanti have been fruitful, paving the way for the transfer of ownership to a new management team.

“We have sat down with Anglo Gold Ashanti and have agreed on giving the team to another management to spearhead the rival of the club. We are currently negotiating and doing all the paperwork for a successful takeover.”

The journey towards revitalizing AshantiGold has not been without its challenges.

Dr. Frimpong, along with several key figures, including former head coach Thomas Duah and majority of the the players, faced severe penalties from the Ghana Football Association following allegations of match-fixing in a game against Inter Allies in July 2021.

This resulted in bans ranging from two to ten years, casting a shadow over the club’s reputation.

The repercussions were severe, with AshantiGold being demoted to the Division Two League—a blow that deeply affected loyal fans in Obuasi.

However, Dr. Frimpong remains undeterred, believing that with concerted efforts and new leadership, the Miners will once again shine on the football stage.

“AshGold is a giant in Ghanaian football, and its decline has been felt across the league,” Dr. Frimpong remarked.

“But we are on a mission to restore its greatness and I urge our supporters to remain patient as we navigate through this transitional phase.

“With the grace of God and unwavering determination, AshantiGold will rise again.”

As the club prepares for a new chapter under fresh management, hopes are high among fans that this period of turbulence will soon give way to a resurgence of success and glory for AshantiGold Football Club.

AshGold boasts four Ghana Premier League championships, securing their most recent title victory in 2015.
