Defending champions Dreams FC, faced a stunning upset in the 2023/24 MTN FA Cup semi final, exiting the tournament after a 2-1 defeat to Bofoakwa Tano at the Wafa Park.
The Still Believers, expected to dominate as last year’s winners, encountered fierce resistance from the determined Bono side in the early stages of the game and it settled in a stalemate for the first half.
After the half time break, Bofoakwa broke the deadlock with a well-taken strike by forward Dacosta Aboagye in the 48th minute.
The forward, after going past his marker, chose to toe-poke the ball, thereby beating Simon Agbesi in goal for Dreams.
Dreams then fought back admirably, equalizing from the penalty spot through Emmanuel Agyei’s expertly taken shot in the 61st minute.
The game remained deadlocked after 90 minutes, leading to an intense extra time period.
Early in extra time, Bofoakwa took the lead again with a lovely dribbling move initiated by Isaac Baffoe.
Elijah Addai connected to Baffoe’s well-laid pass into the 6-yard box, giving Bofoakwa a crucial lead in the 93rd minute.
Bofoakwa defended resolutely against Dreams’ determined efforts, holding onto their lead until the final whistle.
This remarkable victory sets up a showdown in the final against Nsoatreman, who previously eliminated Legon Cities.
Bofoakwa, facing relegation concerns, now have a chance at silverware and a potential African adventure if they can triumph in the upcoming final.
