Berekum Chelsea showed great resilience to defeat Asante Kotoko 2-1 at the Golden City Park on Saturday afternoon.
The Ghana Premier League match-week 30 fixture was of huge importance to the Bibires who needed to bounce back from their 3-0 home loss to Hearts of Oak.
This is the Bono side’s 13th win of the season while it marks Kotoko’s 12th loss of the season.
The Reds made an impressive start, taking the lead in the 15th minute thanks to Steve Mukwala’s header.
However, just before half time, Kotoko goalkeeper Moise Pouaty fouled Stephen Amankona in the box, resulting in a penalty awarded to Chelsea.
Amankona stepped up and successfully restored parity for Chelsea in the 41st minute.
In the second half, the two sides probed for the lead but they wasted key moments in attack.
Just when the match seemed to end in a stalemate at the Golden City Park, Mezack Afriyie had other plans.
In the 95th minute, the forward netted a crucial goal for Berekum Chelsea from a corner kick delivered by Lord Amoah to win the encounter.
With only four matches left in the league, Kotoko is currently in the 11th position with 40 points, while Berekum Chelsea is in 4th place with 44 points.
Kotoko will host Accra Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. On the other hand, Berekum Chelsea will be traveling to Accra to take on Great Olympics.
Game over, and what a fantastic way to do it! @BerekumChelseaF 2-1 @AsanteKotoko_SC
